Horror Adventure Games List and Meta Score


I absolutely love the adventure horror game genre. There is nothing better than gaming in when the weather is cold and dismal outside *queue Thunderstorm here too please*; getting completely absorbed into an eerie game with the company of a good hot coffee!
Jump scares, horrifying revelations and journeys down the rabbit hole, in no particular order, some games in this genre...
(Some I have played and others I am still getting too)



The Walking Dead: Season Two

Damned

Summary: Youll be able to play as one of the four people that got trapped inside this haunted hotel. As a survivor your main objective will be finding your way out, as well as helping your fellows get out too. Youll often find yourself on the edge, hearing and seeing ghostly things, trying to find keys and items to help in your escape. And sometimes youll find yourself running desperately from a monster, whos there only to hunt down and kill you and your friends. Youll also be able to play as the monster. Youll assume an ethereal form, which youll use to haunt the survivors, triggering eerie noises and events. Youll also assume a physical form, which will allow you to hunt and kill the survivors trapped in the hotel. Itll be your killing spree.

Alan Wake Collection 

Played this really enjoyed it!


Alan Wake is a psychological action thriller, a unique new take in the world of gaming. The game is set in an idyllic all-American small town and its surroundings in the state of Washington. Alan Wake, the game's protagonist, is a bestselling horror writer, who writes a novel about his darkest nightmares. In the game, those nightmares come true. As with Remedy's previous games, story and atmosphere are fundamental elements. The game features a massive, open world for the players to explore. The game design is mission based with the player as the driving force behing the action, and as with their previous games, Remedy again focuses completely on delivering the best possible single player experience. The use of light is a significant gameplay element. Remedy has developed proprietary new technology to support the gameplay of the title and to push the high definition visuals to the next level.


  



BlackSoul

BlackSoul is a 3rd-person survival horror adventure game with an intriguing story that takes place somewhere in the English countryside: people have been turned into psychotic killers by an unknown infection and you must try to help Ava and Sean survive in the quarantined area and find out the truth about the infection. You won't spend all your time on a killing spree, but you'll need to solve many puzzles which will challenge you. The story is set in England in 1972. Forget any government research labs in which they're working on some kind of ultimate weapon; instead think of something much sadder and crueler...and even if the story is not based on truth, we'll tell you about some events that really happened in the mid century.

Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs

Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs is an upcoming survival horror video game developed by thechineseroom and produced by Frictional Games. The game is an indirect sequel to Amnesia: The Dark Descent, which was developed and produced by Frictional Games.

The year is 1899
Wealthy industrialist Oswald Mandus awakes in his bed, wracked with fever and haunted by dreams of a dark and hellish engine. Tortured by visions of a disastrous expedition to Mexico, broken on the failing dreams of an industrial utopia, wracked with guilt and tropical disease, he wakes into a nightmare. The house is silent, the ground beneath him shaking at the will of some infernal machine: all he knows is that his children are in grave peril, and it is up to him to save them.


 



Eleusis

Eleusis is a 3d first-person adventure game for Windows developed by Nocturnal Works. It takes place in a seemingly abandoned village in Greece where the player character, while trying to seek refuge, finds himself in the center of a whirlwind of mysterious events. As the plot unfolds he finds clues that indicate that the village is a nest of a cult which plans to revive a dark force through an ancient ritual and harness its power. The player character faces the challenge of unlocking the forgotten knowledge of the ancient mysteries in order to stop the cult from accomplishing their goal. It is an exploration based adventure game where the player is called to solve the mystery by finding clues and reading various texts based on actual history, mythology and technology of ancient Greece.


 



Anna Extended Edition

Alter Ego

In the town of Plymouth the body of recently buried Sir William disappears under strange circumstances. This peculiar news would not stir such tremendous public interest if it was not Sir William himself. He was investigated several times during his life and although the police never managed to press charges against him, scary legends about his bloody crimes live on among the town people. There were only a few left who were willing to serve him and were brave enough to stand the look at his lifeless face. And most of them run away in horror after his death and series of murders that followed it. Police are helpless and not able to move forward with the case. Downfall

Quiet Haven Hotel was supposed to be just a one night shelter for Joe and Ivy Davis. But things soon start to go wrong. Ivy's panic attacks get worse and soon she disappears. Cursed Mountain

Dark Fall: Lost Souls

You have unfinished business with the dead. Return to the Train Station and Hotel at Dowerton for a second time; there is a new mystery to solve, and new horrors to face.

The old buildings have deteriorated since your last perilous adventure, so you must watch your step, and never turn your back on the darkness...for something hides there; Something evil, unknowable and hungry.  The dead of Dowerton are the least of your problems, as you are stalked from one derelict room to the next, by the Dark Fall itself. It wants your soul; to feed upon, devour and torture. You must make the ghosts of the hotel your ally, through any means you can. For it is only through successful exorcisms that you will gain the strength to battle the darkness that lurks in that long forgotten, abandoned place.


 



Memento Mori

Memento Mori is a classic person point & click adventure set in the popular conspiracy mystery genre. The player takes the role of the shady art dealer Maxim Durand who is forced by the Russian Secret Service to help solving a mysterious series of crimes: An ancient sect, named Ikuinen Nukkuja, located deep in the dark forests of Finland, tries to steal precious paintings and doesn’t even refrain from murder to achieve their goal. Maxim and his contact at the Secret Service, Lara Svetlova, find out that the ancient sect “collects” paintings which, having all been painted by artists shortly before their death, show the Angel of Death hidden in the layers of paint. Maxim and Lara embark on a dangerous journey throughout Europe to stop the cult, find the stolen paintings and to ultimately face the Angel of Death himself.


 



Penumbra Collection

Penumbra is a first person horror adventure focusing on story, immersion and puzzle solving. Violence and combat is hardly an option - the player has to use wits to guide Philip through his final test, and this makes the series unique in offering a truly dangerous and terrifying experience.

Last Half of Darkness Beyond the Spirit's Eye

Captain Marcos has brought back an ancient blood stone from his last voyage to the dark isles of the Black Sea. The stone contains the Eye of Arcarous; a long since dead pirate who cursed the eye with the power of the dark world to help protect his treasure.

Unleashed through the excavation of the eye, it was not long before the dark "Guardians of the Eye" made their way through the gates of Shadowcrest and eventually to the doorstep of Marcos, where an infection was delivered and an entire town soon lost to the ghosts of the black world. With the bite of black magic flowing through his veins, Marcos slowl y grew mad with a bloodthirsty hunger for the living. It was not long before stories of bodies found dead and drained of their blood filled the newspapers along with rumors of a "vampire" killer. It was official, the great explorer and captain was reduced to a vampiric-murderer with Shadowcrest his tomb. In the early stages, the captain tried to hide his insatiable appetite and even sought aid from his friend and doctor. His friend, Dr Benzors, tried to seek a cure for Marcos' tainted blood diseased, but found that the answer somehow was related with the bloodstone itself. He was not familiar with such magic and knew it would take more than science to rid the evil from his friend and this town.

The latest installment to the "Last Half of Darkness" story, the new title offers a spine-tingling story of terror, mysterious puzzles and bizarre imagery. Summoned once again to a world of voodoo and black magic, the player must explore a ghostly town of shadows and lore to solve the riddles of the darkness left behind.

The Path

The Path is a short horror game inspired by older versions of Little Red Ridinghood, set in modern day. The Path offers an atmospheric experience of exploration, discovery and introspection through a unique form of gameplay, designed to immerse you deeply into its dark themes. Every interaction in the game expresses an aspect of the narrative. The six protagonists each have their own age and personality and allow the player to live through the tale in different ways. Most of the story, however, relies on your active imagination. The Path is designed with accessibility in mind. There are no ticking clocks or monsters to defeat. No hard puzzles will ever halt your progress. Most activities in the game are entirely optional and voluntary. The player has all the freedom in the world to explore and experience. The Path is a Slow Game. Six sisters live in an apartment in the city. One by one their mother sends them on an errand to their grandmother, who is sick and bedridden. The teenagers are instructed to go to grandmother's house deep in the forest and, by all means, to stay on the path! Wolves are hiding in the woods, just waiting for little girls to stray. But young women are not exactly known for their obedience, are they? Will they be able to resist the temptations of the forest? Will they stay clear of danger? Can they prevent the ancient tale from being retold?


 



Salammbo

In 264 BC, Hannibal's proud city has just been overrun by its rival Rome in the first Punic War. Tired of waiting to be paid, the mercenaries who fought for Carthage against Rome revolted and laid siege to the city. In the very heart of the disruptions and massacres, Salammbo, the daughter of the Shophet Hamilcar, commander of the Carthaginian forces, falls in love with the chief of the rebels, Matho, who is leading the war against the city. Portraying Spendius, an escaped slave and companion of Matho, the player will discover the fantastic history of these mercenaries who fought against Carthage. Spendius is a survivor and an opportunist more than a conqueror. He is a man who stays in the shadows, much more suited to slipping in the night into an enemy city than confronting an enemy face to face...To save his life, he will have to encourage this war and try to take advantage of the disturbances to gain power, fortune and perhaps the love of the beautiful Salammbo.

Victoria McPherson is a brilliant young FBI agent who's investigating a serial murder case. The body count is now at five and with the lack of real leads and a mountain of circumstantial evidence, Victoria is beginning to show signs of fatigue and stress. She decides to take a break and go rest at her father's home in suburban Chicago; after all, it is close to the Christmas holidays. However, Victoria does not find rest. Instead, she finds one of her grandfather's old case files and begins to read. Oddly enough, Victoria's present case resembles the one from the past, right down to the killer's MO. The game features a compelling storyline set in modern Chicago and late 1920's Prague; beautifully detailed environments; rich and intriguing characters; Breath-taking cinematics; the opportunity to investigate the crime scenes of gruesome serial homicides and to solve challenging puzzles finely integrated into the storyline.

Still Life 2 is the second chapter in the Still Life story. Victoria McPherson, FBI investigator, has been following the case of the East Coast Killer, an elusive serial murderer who has taken several lives in the East Coast of the United States. As Victoria attempts to crack the case, she meets journalist, Paloma Hernandez who claims to have vital information about the killer, but now she has been kidnapped! Players must stop the East Coast Killer before he murders Paloma, and continues his rampant killing spree.





 



The Cameron Files: The Secret at Loch Ness

Hidden away in the Scottish countryside above Loch Ness, sits serene Devil's Ridge Manor. But its tranquillity is deceptive. For some time now there has been an increasing number of ghosts and supernatural phenomena at the manor. At the request of the famous physicist and owner of the manor Allister Mac Farley, private investigator Alan P. Cameron leaves his Chicago office for the mists of his ancestral land. Does the fabled sea monster play a part in the goings-on?
